BUSINESS EMPLOYMENT

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Technology Assessment: Participated on a team that prepared a projection of future technology needs and appropriate directions for a major international accounting firm. I summarized and interpreted the relevant literature. I assessed and compared the current use of technology by competitors in several major areas. I provided background expertise in both accounting and expert systems to the team. Much of the final team report was based on my initial work. I also critiqued drafts of both interim and final reports.

Systems Development: Designed and supervised the implementation of "HELM: Hierarchical Environment for Linear Modeling." The project included the work of six student programmers and is over 30,000 lines of code. HELM is a combination visual-algebraic language for specifying, viewing, and transforming a linear programming model schema in a variety of useful ways. The system is designed to be integrated with an expert system shell.

Designed and implemented a menu driven relational database accounting system, including data integrity checking and standard report design. System was implemented in DBASE-III for the Oregon State University Computer Science Department.

Assisted in the design, implementation and installation of a perpetual inventory control system for multiple locations. I worked with Managerial Communications Systems to develop, implement, and install a system for Camera Showcase, a chain of retail camera stores.

Assisted in developing and implementing a computerized system for ordering merchandise. The system was developed for Stone Fence Inc., a chain of gift stores.

Designed and implemented bookkeeping systems for several small companies, including United Way of Benton County and Beta Computers. Some of these systems used general ledger and accounts receivable computer packages; others were manual.

  • Auditing and Accounting: Participated in or supervised field audits of government, franchising, escrow, and not-for-profit organizations while working in public accounting.

Responsible for all phases of retail accounting, not-for-profit accounting and manufacturing cost accounting through preparation of financial statements. Analyzed expenses and liabilities, prepared loan applications, payroll, and payroll tax forms, and projections of income and expenses. Have worked with both manual and computer accounting systems. Prepared tax returns for individuals, partnerships and corporations
