REQUEST FOR RESEARCH PROPOSALS

Dear Colleague:
The National Center for Automated Information Research (NCAIR) is pleased to announce to professionals and educators in the law and accounting fields that it is accepting grant applications for research on the application of information technology to law and accounting practice and education.
Grants are made in amounts up to $150,000. NCAIR also awards, in an amount up to $75,000, an occasional senior research fellowship grant named for its late trustee, Judge David J. Dixon.
NCAIR is currently interested in proposals for research and development of: new techniques for storing and retrieving information; artificial intelligence, including expert systems; and electronic communication, with a special emphasis on the Internet. Applicants must submit a completed grant application that 1) defines the scope of the research 2) describes the methodology to be used, including the staffing pattern 3) estimates the time required to do the research and prepare any publishable item 4) describes the project's impact on the legal or accounting profession, and 5) provides a complete budget, including a report of funds sought or received from other sources. All grant applications are reviewed by NCAIR's Executive Committee.
