The
New Professional Accounting Program
Measurement
and Assurance for the Third Millenium
Objectives
Transformation of the day-time graduate
level offerings at Rutgers Newark to satisfy emerging CPA requirements
and the morphing of accounting organizations
and professionals service organizations.
Environmental Issues
There is tremendous emerging demand
for graduate accounting courses due to the 150 hour requirement.
Rutgers will be in an advantageous
competitive position by offering the 3+2 that will satisfy the 150 hour
requirement and provide also an
MBA.
Integrating technology into the curriculum
and technological concentration we will satisfy the current trend in
Professional Service organizations
focusing on consulting and technology. Hopefully we can proceed to
create much demand for our graduates
even at entry point.
Strategy
-The MS in Taxation and the MS in
governmental accounting are also options for undergraduates with degrees
in accounting to
fulfill the 150 hour requirement
-All technology courses proposed
in this integrated set of offerings are existing MBA courses offered by
the different
departments of FOM.
-The 3+2 program includes our students
coming in as Freshmen and transfers (2+1+2).
Steps
The
Different Programs
While we should evolve the content
of the PA, it will be costless to keep running the current 'change PA'
fir a while to
satisfy existing demand and services
for other countries.
A variation on the current PA for
students not intending to obtain certification but to work on some capacity
in techno-financial
positions both in industry and professional
services firms.
It involves the current PA curriculum
less 3 courses plus three alternative existing courses.
The 3+2 program (Joint BA/MBA program)
A program for Rutgers and other students
in which they get an undergraduate and an MBA degree as well as all instructional
pre-requisites for a CPA in 4 years
and two months. This includes 2 summers.
The 4+1 program, (Techno 150 Hour Program)
Traditionally the PA program does
not accept students with undergraduate degrees in accounting. This version
will accept these
students and complete their requirements
with all MBA core courses and a strong emphasis in technology. This program
will be
both for Rutgers undergraduates
and graduates from other four year programs
A FOCUSED PLAN FOR RECRUITMENT OF PAMBA STUDENTS
The Rutgers 3+2 Joint BA/MBA Track in Professional Accounting
Intensive implementation and marketing
of existing agreements articulated between GSM and Rutgers colleges for
undergraduate students
who do not major in accounting
to transfer after three years of undergraduate studies to the 14 month
PAMBA program. At graduation
after four years and two months
the students will be awarded BA and MBA degrees and will qualify to take
the CPA examination within
the 150 hour requirements. This
track requires careful planning for students to complete their undergraduate
major requirements before
they transfer to PAMBA. The 3+2
program is open to transfer students but some individual tailoring of the
curriculum may be necessary.
The 4-1 BSPAMA Techno 150 Hour Track
Intensive implementation and marketing
of the Rutgers 4-1 BSPAMA 150 Hour Track. In this track students with a
Bachelor Degree from
Rutgers and a major in accounting,
hitherto barred from the PAMBA program, will be admitted to a fifth year
track within PAMBA
emphasizing training in information
technology. They will graduate with a Master in Accountancy Degree with
emphasis on Information
Technology and will qualify to take
the CPA examination within the 150 hour requirement. This program will
accept students from
Rutgers and other institutions.
Marketing Highlights
-Progressive integration of additional
technology into each course
-Progressive development of overlapping
'learn from the desk' options
-In house 'learn from the desk'
contracts with professional service firms and industry
